I am amazed and touched to see how another's life can be changed through interaction with someone who might be seen as "different." Thx, twTeresa Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03507187746332426082noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5988189235001699861.post-69805466276468735192011-09-17T21:14:55.473-07:002011-09-17T21:14:55.473-07:00I had an abortion many years ago. We went on to have two daughters. Our first one has severe cerebral palsy. After being angry with God for quite some time, I decided that I was an atheist. My anger went away.

There is no test for cerebral palsy and probably never will be. When I was pregnant with her and with our younger daughter, I never had a single genetic test done.

When I was pregnant with our second daughter, the doctor thought he saw a possible heart defect while looking at he ultrasound. Turned out that her heart is fine. She does, however, have a mild birth defect, a concave sternum. That is what the doctor saw. And even though I was forty-three when I had her, she is fine.

Both of our daughters are smart and funny in their own way. The older one cannot speak and all of her needs must be taken care of. But I learn from her. She is one of the hardest working people I've ever met. And when she laughs, it is infectious.

Being a parent to a special needs kid is not easy. And, yes, sometimes I wish things were different. But I love her to pieces. She is the child of my heart.

Both of my daughters have great value to me and to anyone willing to look in their eyes. I have been fighting on and off for years to get people, particularly educators, to see her as a human being.

I suspect that you and I have very different worldviews, but one thing we have in common is that we love our children. And we love them unconditionally.Miss Shuganahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13200157646397610173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5988189235001699861.post-62482574327528675302011-09-17T19:06:11.102-07:002011-09-17T19:06:11.102-07:00This is a compelling and poignant post about the v...This is a compelling and poignant post about the value of life.
